I shouldn’t have had the second cup of coffee. But I did. I struggled to settle. My mind and my body reacted to the caffeine. I stared out the window at the steady rain… and put on my yellow boots. I was heading to the grocery store because a rainy day needs homemade soup. I saw the sign and turned left. Goddard is always beautiful. Leaves and branches and grasses, wet and heavy with rain, bent and bowed, invited me to the path. The scent of rain soaked earth mingled with salt water and honeysuckle. Raindrops and birdsongs ushered me into a calm almost meditative place. I lingered long enough that I shook my head and sent drops flying like a dog after a swim. I sat for awhile in the wet sand and threw some worries into the bay. Then I took my wet, sandy denim and boots to the store. Soup was still necessary.
