Some Sundays are Dateline Sundays-Sundays where the couch and crochet and Dateline envelope me. Others are Sunday-Soup Sundays and I spend a serious chunk of the day dancing in the kitchen, chopping, seasoning and stirring soup into being. We had a long, albeit fun, Saturday so either of these fairly typical Sundays would have suited me fine. But Facebook alerted me. The Red Planet was playing at Stony Creek. Done.
Stony Creek brews a beer called Big Cranky. Big Cranky is the reason I developed my “2 to fuzzy, 3 never 4” rule a few years ago. It’s all about the math. Big Cranky is a 16 oz Double IPA sitting at 9.5%. I did not know these numbers when we were introduced about 3 years ago at one of our favorite go-to pubs in Providence. We liked each other immediately. A lot. Ooof.
Living out East, we don’t have many opportunities to see family. In October 2019 we drove to Connecticut to see a college-aged cousin play volleyball. I can’t tell you how fun it was to be in the same place as a family member. It didn’t matter that we had mere minutes to say hello and share hugs. Seeking food on the way home, we found Stony Creek Brewery. Walking in I saw the “to-go” cooler and it was staring at, flirting with, winking at me-Big Cranky! Oh I know you, I smiled. Already giddy with anticipation, we walked in to the sounds of familiar music. The Red Planet was blessing us with some Hunter/Garcia masterpieces. We stayed for a few and a side of pizza. We vowed to return for Big Cranky and for Red Planet.
Today was the day. Facebook alerted, we reacted. Costco was on the way. So today, THIS Sunday, was a Connecticut Costco and Stony Creek Sunday. And today, folks, I was introduced to Little Cranky-the perfect Sunday or session Cranky. Cheers y’all!
